What impresses me about people is their resilience and their grit. Watch this incredible video of Mark Freeman who suffers / ed from Harm OCD talk about how it needs to be dealt with. He talks about three important points in relation to ERP with Harm OCD but I'll let you watch the video and check it out for yourself.

Here it is:

Video - The breakthrough (oceanofocd.com)

Hello,

One more cool video from the same source as yesterday - oceanofocd.com, once again with the text verbatim:

ocean originals #6: what can we do when OCD threatens to limit our freedom with its blocks and bricks of confusion and worry? do we allow OCD to box us in between fear and doubt? do we give up? at the end of the day, there's really only one thing to do: break through! it will take patience, courage and a grand leap of faith. it will be terrifying. but what great reward comes without glorious risk? and what better reward than a full, colorful life - a life free from the exhausting clock factory called obsessive-compulsive disorder?

Let's breakthrough, shall we? Can we all try?

Video - Cloudy Thoughts (oceanofocd.com)

Hello!

Here's a video from oceanofocd.com called Cloudy Thoughts and the accompanying text verbatim:

ocean originals #4: there's nothing like getting a bright idea - the excitement, the illumination, the hope. those of us with OCD experience an additional phenomenon: our brightest thoughts are soon clouded by a barrage of doubt and fear. we must hold on, through the storm, not giving up. our fears and doubts won't disappear completely, but they will become smaller, leaving an opportunity to reclaim what's ours. this will feel like a risk. take the risk!

Go for it!

Pdf - Threat System (Fight or Flight)

The fight or flight system automatically gets activated in the body when the body senses a threat. It prepares the body to either fight the threat or run away from the threat. The body experiences these changes automatically. Although these changes happen for the right reasons, the body experiences discomfort when these changes are triggered in seemingly 'safe' situations.

Here's a worksheet explaining the same. Get it here. (Click here)

Have a good week.

Videos - Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners

Would you believe it? UK has had a television series called Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners. The idea is incredibly simple and brilliant. Get the obsessive cleaners in the city to clean up the houses of the excessively messy.

What I'm posting here is two parts of the 6th episode of Season 1 that I chanced upon on YouTube. I aim to watch all the episodes that are available on YouTube and see which other interesting things come up there.

Here goes:

Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners (S-1, E-6, Part 1-4)

Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners (S-1, E-6, Part 2-4)

Tell me what you think of this!

Cheers!

Worksheet - Safety Behaviors (from Psychology.Tools)

Safety-seeking behaviours are a natural response to threat (think 'fight or flight' - people act to keep themselves safe). Unfortunately, some behaviours have the effect of reinforcing beliefs about threat, or mean that beliefs don't get challenged.

Found an interesting analogy from The Simpsons strip. Do take a look and figure out if you notice any Safety Behaviors in / around you.

Get the worksheet here (Click Here)

Let's try to get rid of them shall we?

Song - Unwritten by Natasha Bedenfield

Hello,

Who can deny or question the power of music in helping us deal with various issues? I came across a post that lists down thirty incredibly beautiful songs to help combat the anxiety felt during various moments, including when OCD hits us hard in the face.

Here's the first one. It is called Unwritten by Natasha Bedenfield. The song encourages us to not rue our present state and take charge for a better tomorrow.

Here's the video. And here are the lyrics to sing along:

"Unwritten"

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, yeah, yeah

More strength, more power, more resilience to you, my friends!
